Ralph's Daily Devotional - Wednesday, March 14

Matthew 24:1-33 is yet another lesson in which a fig tree is used.  This time it's not the fig tree's seed or fruit that Jesus speaks of, but its leaves.  This is a lengthy and complicated passage, and we cannot possibly do it justice here.

But, the leaves serve to indicate dramatically that the time is very near when Jesus will return.  Although no one except God knows the exact day or hour, Jesus gives us details as to the events leading up to His glorious return.  Some signs are general in nature, while others are very specific.  Today we still have some specific signs not yet fulfilled such as the appearance of the Anti-Christ.  The "leaves" are almost ready to come forth.

CS Lewis wisely summarized the Return of Christ with three essential truths:

  1. Christ shall come
  2. No one knows when He will come
  3. Be ready for His coming
