Ralph's Daily Devotional - Monday, March 26

The Mount of Olives has a very crucial and strategic setting in history.  It's located on a hill overlooking Jerusalem and was a favorite place of our Lord for both teaching and providing Him rest.  It was from there that Jesus wept over Jerusalem.  It was from there that He taught His greatest truths concerning His second coming.  In fact, it was from there that He ascended into Heaven (Acts 1:9-12).  A fascinating text is found in the Old Testament prophecy of Zechariah and it involves this very site (Zechariah 14:4).  There, at the second coming of Jesus, His feet shall touch that very spot!  Again as seen in Acts 1:9-12, the place He last left and the place He first returns to is the Mount of Olives!

Olives hold a sacred place in Scripture.  Olive trees are some of the oldest living things known.  Some of the olive trees still living in that area may well have lived during the time of Jesus.
