Ralph's Daily Devotional - Monday, April 30

Jude 1:8-10 speaks of one basic sin.  It was the sin of Sodom, as well as those who rebelled in Israel, and Satan and his demons.  What was this sin?  It was pride.  It was a refusal to acknowledge the sovereignty of God.

Here Jude brings us into a new revelation of an event we would not know of were it not for him.  Whether Jude's information came from direct inspiration or other non-canonical books, or both, is a matter of continued study.  One thing is clear: these individuals were arrogant, proud and slanderers to all that is good.

"Heaping abuse on celestial beings" is a very peculiar and unique indictment, and one I cannot fully understand given we have so little background.  Jude's readers, by virtue of knowing these people, would certainly have understood.  As to the body of Moses, this again is a subject only Jude speaks of.  I have no clue what it refers to other than what he states.

But we can understand Jude's words: "Slandering whatever they do not understand."  2 Peter 3:3-7 also speaks of this.  Today, Christians are often depicted as foolish - even absurd - for believing Jesus is the way to God; that there really is a Heaven and Hell, and that there really are standards of sexual conduct which God holds us to. May God give us grace to endure!
