Ralph's Daily Devotional - Friday, June 29

Exodus 13:21-22 describes God's continued leading of His people in terms of a pillar of fire.  Israel's freedom is not some radical liberation movement.  It is a new beginning, unlike anything ever before seen in history.

The pillar of fire represents the protective guidance of God.  God, though unseen, is visibly present.

How this is possible is, of course, a mystery, but one of light and not darkness.  He will both speak and act in ways true to His character.  Israel, will be either blessed or judged, depending on their response to God's light.  The real issue here is that He is there.

Jesus also calls Himself the light of the world, leading His church with the same power and assurance.  To those of us with eyes of faith to see, we also have the assurance that God both watches over us and leads us to a better place.
