Ralph's Daily Devotional - Friday, February 9

We all know the story in Genesis.  Satan tempts Eve and she succumbs.  What seemed to be the "right choice" for her at the moment ultimately meant death, bearing out the warning of Proverbs 16:25

For many, the question "what is right" is understood simply as, "what is right for me?  What will make me happy?"  Morality and obedience to God do not come into the picture.  Jesus warned of two ways; one narrow that leads to life and the other wide, leading to death.  Satan's favorite song is Frank Sinatra's "I did it my way."

A beautiful girl decides to become a model.  She accepts an offer to pose nude.  It seems like the "right" decision since this is a wonderful opportunity, opening to a new career.  A struggling young  Christian actor is offered a role in a comedy sex film.  He is to play the part of a gay man having an affair with another.  He decides it is the right thing to do if he wants to break into film.  See my point?

Physical death occurs no matter how many good decisions we make, and Proverbs 16:25 is not speaking of that.  It means that there are things that many decide that lead to the path of death  That path is strewn with darkness, pain, emptiness and a life apart from God as opposed to the life exemplified in Psalm 23.  It may for a time produce wealth, fulfillment and a sense of happiness.  But in the end it will be as death.  You see this all the time in biographies.  Long ago I made the choice to follow Jesus Christ.  He is "my way," leading me not to death, but to life (John 14:6).
